Friday, May 9th, 2008

Common people never think of what goes behind the ever running trucking industry. There is a misconception in the masses that truckers have a very ugly kind of life and are thought to harm you on roads. But in fact they are the kinds of people who will always lend you a hand when ever you are stuck on roads with your hood open and a confusion on your face,.

The truth is that even though these people are not recognized for there job but they are the one that have kept our economy running day after day. If they stop working then whole of our economy can collapse and many places might just get cut off from rest of world. They are the people who carry all those grocery items, gasoline, food packages and every essential item that we use each day. Your car might just stick in one place if these people don’t carry gasoline for us. The real answer is if they don’t work then we will be starving to death.

You can find different types of trucks on roads. From 18 wheelers big rigs to smaller Lorries, there are many kinds of trucks running each day carrying your essential stuffs. Each trucking company has its own specialization and deals with different kinds of equipments. A truck that delivers ice-cream to your grocery store might not deliver office supplies to your local discount store. But all of them are transporting things that are essential to you. They might be carrying different things but their main aim is to provide you with quality service. One thing you should remember that they are working for us and if they stop working then we might just stop to do our own work.

Are truckers going soft these days? … Well, the answer to that question would be yes, truckers are using trucking software these days to make their lives a lot easier. The life of a trucker is not all about driving day in and day out behind the wheel of a huge rig. They also have a lot of documents and paperwork to maintain that makes it very difficult for them. They also need to keep track of a lot of information for themselves as well as the trucking company they are associated to. There is quite a variety of trucking software available for purchasing in the market today but the one to choose would be the one that accomplishes all the requirements and expectations the trucker has from the software.

Now the first question that is going to go through your mind is going to be: why does a trucker need trucking software? All he does is drive..!!

Well, trucking is way more than just driving around cities. It includes recording a lot of things and anticipating a few things to. For example: when will the trucker need his next gas refill, when should he take a break and take a nap etc. The trucking software can keep track of all the things that the trucker needs it to, like: mileage, expenses made during a particular trip etc. Even the government requires the trucker to record and maintain details of each trip he makes. Whether it is when they stop to sleep or take a break to the number of miles they traveled. There is trucking software that is compliant with the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) rules and regulations. All a trucker would need to do is input the data. The rest of the work is to be left to the software that will compile the data in a way acceptable to the DOT as well as the trucking company.

Hence, trucking software not only makes life for truckers a lot simpler but also saves them a lot of paperwork and headaches.

With a trucking company, come loads and loads and loads of trucks, hundreds and thousands of trucks. Blue trucks; Green trucks; Brown trucks; Yellow trucks; Big trucks; Small trucks. Fast trucks, Slow trucks all kinds of trucks. However, it is not as simple as you think it is to keep a track of such a large number of trucks. You cannot possibly remember which truck is where and what is supposed to be its next destination. Now it is humanely impossible to remember and recollect all this information using your mind. The traditional way of noting everything down in book is not only tedious and messy but way too outdated. It would be a shame if anyone used books to note down entries and details on trucks in this modern age, where the computer is the slave of man. A computer can make just about any task easier for just about anyone.

Delivering goods and scheduling pick ups is a demanding job in itself. Managing the company and trucks is an added responsibility on the shoulders of the truckers and the company. It becomes extremely difficult for them to perform so many duties without missing anything out.

Trucking companies now use what is known as a “Fleet Management Software” to help them keep track of their trucks and schedules. The fleet management software are capable of storing a huge amount of data and inputting which is a piece of cake for anybody.

Common fleet management software would help:

            Improve Productivity

            Improve Management Control

Validate Hours Worked and Overtime Claims

            Reduce Unauthorized Mileage

            Improve Communications with Remote Workers

            Improve Maintenance Schedules

            Identify of High Risk Drivers

Keep a track of stolen vehicles

            Improve Risk Profile etc.

Listed above are just some of the advantages of using fleet management software against other traditional and outdated methods.  Fleet management software makes life so much easier for truckers and trucking companies since it helps in easily keeping track of all their trucks and vehicles making things more organized, maintained and favorable.
